Christian Education

Christian Education at Old Stone Church!
       Did you know

A) The invitation is always open for parents to bring their children to share in Sunday School at any time.

B)  Parents do not need to be members of the church for their children to attend.

C)  Sometimes it’s Grandparents who bring their grandkids to church.

Nursery care is available for all younger children and is staffed by members of the congregation. Sunday School classes begin for children in Pre-K (4 or 5 yrs old) up through high school.  Children will start out in church with their parents/grandparents for the opening of worship and then be excused for their Sunday School classrooms after the Kid’s Time/Sermon portion of the service.

Sunday School in the Old Stone Church is held each Sunday during the fall through spring school calendar. There is no Sunday School on the first Sunday of each month so families can participate in Communion together. Sunday School concludes at the end of worship services and all are invited to the Fellowship hall for donuts and refreshments.

We’d love to have you join us. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to email (oldstonechurch@oldstonechurch.net) or call (815-624-6212) the church.

Puppet Ministry

The 8th-12 grade students share in the puppet ministry aptly named, “3H: Heaven’s Helping Hands”.

The puppet ministry presents several programs throughout the year to the congregation and has been an on-going ministry for four years.

Wednesday Bible Study – Public Welcome to join us!

Every Wednesdays, 9:30-10:30

An open Bible Study is offered each week. The time together will be an opportunity to look at the scriptures recommended for the up-coming Sunday in church, giving participants the opportunity to begin thinking about the scriptures ahead of next Sunday’s worship.

Scriptures shared in church each week are largely chosen from a set of recommended scriptures developed in 1974 and known under the name the “Common Lectionary”. The Common Lectionary itself is based on the selection of readings adopted by the Roman Catholic Church in 1969 following the reformations of Vatican II. The major Protestant denominations took those readings and, with slight variations, use that same 3-year cycle. That is why a member of another church might say, “Our pastor/priest preached on the same scripture last week.”

Each week of the bible study is “free-standing”, so if you miss a week you will not be “behind” in any manner. The study will be held in the Conference Room in church every Wednesday at 9:30. Bring a cup of coffee and enjoy the conversations! As always, bring a friend to introduce them to our church!

Sunday School Christmas Program

This year’s program included a unique blend of “Heaven’s Helping Hands”, our high school puppeteers, characters from our Sunday School program, and congregational singing.

If your children are not involved in a Sunday School program of Christian Education we invite them to share in our regular Sunday School held each Sunday at 9:30.  Sunday School is held concurrent with worship and a nursery is open and staffed by adults from church during worship.
